Casio screen blank after a battery change
A blank display right after a battery swap is almost never a broken watch — it's a module waiting for a reset, or power not actually reaching it. Two minutes of checks solves the majority of cases.
First: the reset. Casio modules often wake up blank when power is cut and restored. Next to the battery there's a small contact labeled AC — short it to the battery's top (+) surface for a few seconds with metal tweezers and the display should snap back. Full procedure in the AC reset guide. This is the answer most of the time, and it's a ten-second fix.
If the reset does nothing, power isn't reaching the module. In order of likelihood: the new cell is old stock and weak (try another), the battery is upside down (+ faces up), it's the wrong thickness and not touching the contacts, the contact spring got flattened during the swap, or a battery clip/strap isn't fully clicked back into place. One overlooked detail: a few coin cells ship with a thin insulating film or sticker on one face. Peel-check both faces of the new battery — a nearly invisible film is a perfect power blocker.
If segments came back but look wrong — faint digits, missing bars, garbage characters that survive a reset — that's a different problem (display contact or LCD), covered in the faded display guide.
The pattern worth remembering: blank = power or reset, garbled = display path. Diagnose in that order and you'll rarely be stuck.
